Convert Word 2007 Files

Microsoft Word (Windows)

We recently received a file by email from someone with the extension .docx, which is the new Word 2007 format. They redid everything, probably to make us shell out more money. We had to email our friend and ask them to save the file in a different format and send it back to us. It is easier to find ways to do it ourselves.

If you trust sending your files through an online service, Lifehacker recommended Zamzar, which converts image, document, music, video, and compressed files into different formats. It will send the result back to your email address.

For those of you using Office 2007 and wishing to bulk convert all of your files to the new standard, Digital Inspiration provided some instructions on how to do so, using two downloads from Microsoft.

For those of you using older versions of Microsoft Office, you can install the following update(click here) to help them open these files.
